Average UK house price rose to £301,151 in February

The average UK house price rose to £301,151 in February, according to the data from Halifax. The headline number indicates an annual growth of 1.3%, the strongest rate in four months. The cost of a typical home topped £300k for the first time. 

In England, stronger house price growth remained concentrated in northern regions. House prices in the north east were up 3.5% over the year to £181, 838, while the north west recorded annual growth of 2.9%, taking the cost of an average property to £246,292.  

On the other hand, house prices continued to ease in the more pricey southern markets. In the south east, prices were down 2.2% year-on-year to £383,834, while London saw average values fall by 1% to £538,200. 

Northern Ireland continued to see the strongest growth across the UK, average prices rising 6.3% over the past year to £218,608. 

Scotland also followed with a strong rate of growth, with the cost of a typical property increasing 4.7% year-on-year to £222,286.
